July 4th Cover Contest Winner Announced!
The Bel Air Independence Day Committee announces that Sydney Kennedy, a fifth-grade student at and a recent graduate from Homestead Wakefield Elementary School, has won the 2018 4th of July Program Cover Contest.
Sydney Kennedy's love for art and all things creative has been innate from early on; last year, Sydney's artwork was featured on Freedom Federal Credit Union's calendar. Sydney's other interests include soccer, lacrosse and dance. She lives in Bel Air with her parents Dave and Lisa, brother Will, and cat Felix.
Born just before Independence Day, now-11-year-old Sydney naturally loves all things patriotic, and truly enjoyed working on this art contest.
According to Committee President Donald Stewart, "We thought Sydney's art truly conveyed our theme, A Salute to American Heroes! We were especially impressed that she captured the correct way to salute — that's something not easy to show in a silhouette!" Stewart adds.
Sydney's artwork will grace the cover of our 2018 July 4th Program. Our gratitude and thanks again goes to Committee Member David Williams, who again managed this year's Cover Art Contest. The Committee received many excellent submissions.
We want to especially thank Harford County Public Schools art teacher Jen Byrne for her support of our Cover Art Contest.
We will also print the runners-up and honorable mentions inside the program:
- First Runner-up: Olivia Nerad, age 11, Homestead-Wakefield Elementary School
- Second Runner-up: Max Dietz, age 11, Homestead-Wakefield Elementary School
- Honorable Mention: Alyssa Acosta, age 10, Homestead-Wakefield Elementary School
- Honorable Mention: Grace Pennington, age 11, Homestead-Wakefield Elementary School
